The live ink desk. India tested nuclear-capable ballistic missile Prithvi-2 from a defense facility near the coast of Odisha. The missile achieved its target in the test conducted late Thursday evening. This missile developed in DRDO is capable of hitting accurately up to a distance of 350 kilometers.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the night test launch of Prithvi-2 missile was done from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha at around 07.46 pm. The nuclear-powered, short-range ballistic missile hit the target with a high level of accuracy in a successful test. During the test, the missile met all the set operational and technical parameters. This test was conducted under a regular training program.
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has indigenously developed the Prithvi-2 ballistic missile. The Prithvi-2 missile system is considered to be very successful. It is capable of hitting the target with a high level of accuracy. In this launch, the missile met all operational and technical parameters. Officials said that this state-of-the-art missile uses advanced inertial guidance system to hit its target.
According to DRDO, this missile, which attacks up to a range of 350 km, was fired from a mobile launcher. The range of Prithvi-2 missile is 350 km. It is capable of carrying weapons weighing 500 to 1,000 kg. This surface-to-surface missile has two engines with liquid and solid fuel. The missile’s trajectory was monitored by tracking systems and telemetric centers.
A team of senior officials and scientists associated with the Defense Research and Development Organization, ITR were present on the occasion of the test. In the test conducted on January 10 last year, the missile had also met all the standards. Earlier on June 15, 2022, the ballistic missile Prithvi-2 was also successfully tested.
